Statement from Ilryong Moon

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, March 11, 2009

I was certainly hoping for better numbers from the voting machines at Fairview precinct today, but the numbers show otherwise. Even though I have a right to ask for a recount under state law and also challenge the election result due to irregularities with the voting machines used at Fairview precinct, I have decided not to do so. Given the state of our economy, the taxpayers' resources should be focused on providing services to Fairfax County's residents and Braddock District's residents need someone to represent them on the Board of Supervisors to start working on important issues such as budget and transportation as soon as possible. I do not want to cause any delay.

I am humbled by and grateful for all the support that I have received from many supporters and more than 6,000 votes cast in the special election on Tuesday. I would like to congratulate Mr. John Cook for waging a strong campaign and wish him well on the Board. I look forward to working with him on education issues as a school board member.

Ilryong Moon
Candidate
Braddock District Supervisor

Ilryong Moon is seeking the Braddock District Board of Supervisors seat that became vacant when Sharon Bulova was elected as Chairman of the Board of Supervisors. Ilryong congratulates Sharon Bulova and wants to continue the great work she has done for Fairfax County by seeking the opportunity to succeed her in the Braddock District.

In 1995, Supervisor Sharon Bulova recruited me to run for the School Board from Braddock District, and we've worked closely to build the finest school system in America. Now that Sharon has been elected Chairman, I hope you'll choose me as your next Supervisor.
- Ilryong Moon
Democrat for Supervisor

Mr. Moon is currently an at-large representative on the Fairfax County School Board where he has served the community for a decade. He was initially appointed to an at-large seat in 1995, then elected to represent the Braddock District from 1996-1999. Ilryong was elected again in 2004 as an at-large representative, served as Vice Chairman in 2005, Chairman in 2006, and still serves us well today after winning yet another election in 2007.

Moon will bring a unique perspective to the Board of Supervisors — experience in education. His service on the School Board will be an asset to the Board of Supervisors when dealing with educational issues. Moon is determined to keep our Fairfax County school system as one of the best in the nation. In these difficult economic times with rising budget deficits, his voice and expertise are greatly needed on the Board of Supervisors.

A former ESL student, Ilryong Moon is a graduate of Harvard University, a graduate of William and Mary Law School, a husband of a public school teacher, and a father of two sons who attend or have attended Fairfax County schools. He is a member of the Governor's Urban Policy Task Force and a former member of the Virginia Advisory Committee of the U.S. Civil Rights Commission and the Fairfax County Planning Commission.

Ilryong Moon is the most qualified and experienced candidate to keep the progress of Sharon Bulova's tenure going. Please vote for Ilryong Moon for Braddock District Supervisor on Tuesday, March 10. Visit our election information page for details.
