Icarus, the baby house sparrow

Read Icarus' story

July 5, 2007 (Day 18, ~21 days old)
Icarus practices his flying a lot. He can take off and land on his own, and takes short trips around the room. He likes to sit in the window and talk to the other house sparrows outside. He should be ready to go out on his own pretty soon.

Since we started putting him in the window a few days ago, a particular female house sparrow noticed his chirping and comes up to the window and perches on the windowsill or grasps the window screen and hangs out with Icarus. We suspect that it is his mother. In this photo, she is hanging onto the window screen. Icarus is looking away, but usually he goes right up to her and they check each other out.
